Tabouna Bread (on the left): Bread Baked in a Traditional Small Oven
Tabouna bread is a traditional Tunisian artisanal bread baked along the walls of a clay oven called a tabouna. The name tabouna comes from the Arabic taboun (طابون), meaning the hearth or fire pit, derived from the verb tabana (طبن), which means "to stoke the fire." Made from flour, tabouna bread has a round, somewhat flattened shape. It is often topped with sesame seeds on its upper surface.
