The Wedding Yeller

A kind of announcer, sometimes entertainer, usually part of the traditional orchestra, he is there to announce everyone who comes to offer their best wishes to the bride and groom and their families. For a sum of money (which varies depending on the guest’s importance), he delivers a well-rehearsed, rhythmic tirade in which the person’s name and status are wrapped in very flattering adjectives. The orchestra responds accordingly, and the women echo with joyful youyous (ululations).
